Pakistan Diplomacy and Indian Politics

Dreadful Act sometimes May prove Harmful

In recent times the relations between India & Pakistan have worsened much. It is not as of now but the game dates back since partition. If we give a closer look to history of Indo-Pak ties ; they always were tensed. May it be 1949, 1965, 1971, 1999, 2012, 2013, and as of now 2014. With rise of new government in Pakistan last year , the diplomacy was hoping to see a new era of peace n friendliness. But instead what came up was quite as expected by defence analysts. Beheading of Indian soldiers and continuous ceasefire violation along LoC and International Borders by Pakistan , Rise of terrorist activities in PoK & J&K , Pakistan’s camouflaging Hafeez Saeed and not to forget the recent violence along IB n LoC have added to the rivalry. Every time when Pakistan violated d ceasefire ; India would ask for a Flag Meet. Each time India was found to be victimised but suddenly the rise of Nationalist BJP n Prime Minister Narendra Modi has drawn some red lines which could have been done a long time back, say Defence analyst. The problem lies where Pakistan intensifies d violence at border and on the other hand tries to cry victimhood of terror ( home grown terrorist outfits) at UN. India never objected on any peaceful resolution of K-Word but I can say with full responsibility that it was always India first who welcomed any such resolve and later it was always found that Pakistan can never be trusted as when talks would start the borders went tensed.
The year 2014 was very important for India as The Largest Democracy was to elect its New Government for next 5 yrs. And surprisingly a non Congress and non coalition government with full majority came to power. There was quite a excitement and enthusiasm among people regarding what Foreign Policy will the New Government headed by PM Narendra Modi ( whose image is that of a Hindu Nationalist ) will adopt  vis-a-vis Pakistan as the same party had argued that the stand taken by UPA government was quite shabby and it needed a new approach. New Approach was indeed taken when the PM invited SAARC leaders on his swearing-in ceremony ( which led to much criticism but was also welcomed by public at large ). The meet between PM Modi n PM Sharif was hoped to b fruitful when the leaders decided that there would be secretary level talks between the two countries. But then the equations went horribly wrong and since 27th May there have been no talks between the two. Did Pakistan went wrong in judging the changing winds in India? Was the step taken by PM Modi too much aggressive as compared to past governments? Was the decision to retaliate forcefully to any violence on borders  expected from PM? Why are major political parties unhappy with the  tough stand taken by government when Indians are actually with Mr.Modi? Why is army feeling more strong today as said by Army Men themselves? These are some questions which may or may not have answers but I would try to analyse them.
Let us go back to LS polls campaigns. It was BJP led by Modi , asking d then government to take tough measures to deal with Pakistan and Modi himself was mocking at UPA n giving harsh statements. He was actually mocked by Media when he said ,’’Talks n terror cannot go hand in hand’’ But to my surprise was welcomed n praised by d same media when it came to ‘Bullet for Bullet’ policy. While the Pakistan apologists in India are trying hard to push onus on government to invite talks newly the GOI is showing no signs to budge from its stand it took even while campaigning. If we observe keenly the Pak media n diplomats incl. Army, since 2013 was weary of ‘what if BJP n esp. Modi comes to power?’ Will he walk the talk? Will there be yet another war with India? Will Modi talk tough? These were the questions on which Pak news channels were actually debating....... What If? Was the nightmare for them but when this became a reality the tone changed n the debates were What Now? And in this ‘What Now’ Pak leadership ( Army ) actually tried to test the changing winds but to everyone’s surprise when talk was actually walked Pakistan was blown away with winds. It was cornered not only on Bilateral  stage but also on International Platform whem PM Modi said at UNGA, ‘’ Kashmir issue needs to be resolved Bilaterally and it cannot have an outcome on multilateral platform. I am ready to have a talk with Pakistan ‘WITHOUT SHADOW OF TERROR.’’ This was the second time Pakistan should have realised what India expects. Red Lines were already drawn when GOI said ‘ Either talk to separatist or to Government’ . Alas! Pakistan went horribly wrong and it suffered heavily at the hands of Indian Army. Overall the Bullet to Bullet policy seemed to be working when intensity of violence at border was reduced much. Even the forces seemed to have voice when they were in front of the camera assuring the Nation that India is in safe hands with BSF. Indians were seemed quite rejoicing when they saw BSF giving a befitting reply to Na-Pak act.
To Nation’s despair the so called opposition started politicizing this issue when the borders were at stake. The problem with them was , as I can see, PM was addressing rallies in Haryana n Maharashtra and the meetings saw huge crowds n not even half of it turned to that of Congress, SS, MNS, SP, BSP. Congress started saying and I quote,’’ This is happening because the nation is not having a full time Defence Minister’’ This was d most courageous and stupid allegation by former ruling party. During UPA’s tenure Nation had full time Defence Minister who on the floor of the house said Hafeez  Saeedji and Osamaji still nation saw a host of terrorist activities. It was during UPA’s rule when Army men said they were feeling like being handcuffed. What happened when there was full time DM , The Nation saw it. They were courageous enough to point out their own failure n stupid enough to alleged that part time Defence Minister actually tries to make borders violent. On the other hand J&K CM Omar Abdullah and PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti seems to apologetic of what Pakistan did. They were actually urging the government to start talks to end violence at the time when Many of OUR civilians were killed , many injured n lakhs displaced?? Yes, This issue can be resolved through talks only but not at the cost of life of innocents! The nation actually expected these great leaders to stand with Armed Forces at the time of crisis. And amazingly the separatist were nowhere to be seen when it came to Bullet for Bullet policy. SS n MNS chief’s said When borders r tensed the PM has locked his PMO n is campaigning for his party in poll bound states. The persons who don’t know even the ‘D’ Of Diplomacy should have kept silent but saying thus they made a biggest self goal. Is PM expected to go on borders with gun in hand at this time? Is that what they wanted? They ignored the heavy price Pakistan paid for this act and faced public ire on social media by giving such statements. It was shameful for the politicians and former ministers to say that GOI is not doing good to the nation. But this is India and everything needs to be politicised here.
Apart from the shameful n condemnable politics played by Indian politicians the other part also needs to be understood where it all went wrong for Indo-Pak ties. It all started when Pak PM seemed to be going friendly with India when he visited swearing-in ceremony. The Pak Army , who actually is also the untold MEA for India , thought it to be a sham and then on the internal politics became unstable. Imran Khan n Tahir ul-Quadri started protesting for reasons known to Lord. Defaming and using foul language for PM Modi has become a fashion to gain publicity there. To hide the truth that people living in PoK are demanding Independence from Pakistan ; they well planned the act of intensifying border violations and crying victimhood to UN of India’s violence. But it went horribly wrong when UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon said that this issue needs to be resolved bilaterally. Still Pakistan is trying hard to bring in UN but seems it will fail again as UN has not given it a look for more many yrs together. It will be an act of stupidity by Pakistan if it still tries to test Mr.Modi as it has already suffered badly and War is not the option at all. Some Pak Defence Analyst are on record to say that a war with India this time would finish Pakistan off once and for all. At least they must be paid heed by PM Sharif.
India was never a aggressive country for mere reasons that India gave the world the message of ‘Live and Let Live’.Rest the world knows the truth who the victim of terrorism is and who is the nurturer of it. I hope that the rise of ISIS and the declaration of support by Al-Qaeda and Let, JuD and other Pak terror outfits,it must have been dawned upon US that it needs to act in accordance with India to eliminate this poison which was grown and nurtured in Pakistan and now has become a headache for whole world. Rest may Lord bless the people and Let Peace prevail. For violence at right time for right cause is must but it cannot yield desired results. Diplomacy needs to take its own course but not at the cost of lives of innocents.

  1. In pak addressing to pm is in vain. Only military has the final say. Any peace process would be subverted by them for upholding their supremacy. A nation possessed with good natural resources is being lead in wrong direction by flaring up religious sentiments of people over the wellbeing of them. Just think over them sans militancy and misadventures it would have gone miles ahead. Let Almaighty bless their leaders wisdom for embracing peace with erstwhile parental nation
